HUMANE GROUPS OPPOSE DOG TRACK TAXES TO FIX DAWG POUND

A proposal made last month to use dog racing revenues to
fund $130M worth of renovations to Cleveland Stadium met
resistance from dog racing opponents. More than 150 people
gathered at the Stadium "declaring war on anyone interested in
bringing the industry to the Stadium." William Long, Deputy Dir
of Government Affairs for the U.S. Humane Society: "We would
like the dog [Dawg] pound to stay in football, not in racing."
The Browns' response last month to the proposal was "non-
committal" (Douglas Montero, Cleveland PLAIN-DEALER, 3/26).
