LOUGANIS TO TELL OF AIDS AFFLICTION ON ABC'S "20/20"

Olympic champion diver Greg Louganis revealed that he has AIDS and was HIV-positive when he won two gold medals in the 1988 Olympics. In an interview with ABC's Barbara Walters to be broadcast Friday, Louganis tells of the '88 incident in which he struck his head on the board and bled in the pool. Louganis did not inform the doctor that stitched his wounds that he was HIV- positive. Louganis, asked why he is revealing his condition at this time: "I do want to show that being HIV doesn't mean the end of life. You can carry on, have a career, have a life. You don't have to fade away" (Mult., 2/23).
