CHANGE FROM SHAWMUT CENTER TO FLEET (????) COULD BE PRICY
Published February 23, 1995
According to the BOSTON HERALD's "Inside Track" column, the total cost of changing all the "new arena adornments" bearing Shawmut Bank's indian-head logo at the new Boston Garden could top $500,000. The naming rights to the new Garden are included in Fleet Financial Group's $3.7B acquisition of Shawmut Bank. Among the changes that have to be made -- signs, uniforms, cups, napkins and seat tags. Reportedly, there were 15,000 indian-head logos waiting to be affixed to arena seats. "That's $18,000 right there." The HERALD's Fee & Raposa note it was a "good thing" the $4M scoreboard wasn't under construction (BOSTON HERALD, 2/23).
