     BILL WALSH announced his resignation yesterday as head coach
of Stanford football.  SI's Peter King said he looks for Walsh to
become a "quarterback guru" acting as a consultant to some NFL
teams and other teamns, with his first job being in the World
League "to try to develop new quarterbacks which the NFL
desperately needs" ("Monday Night Football," ABC,
11/28)....Former Tiger great DENNY MCLAIN has begun his
involvement with Pizza Hut, Inc. by offering an autographed
baseball as part of a meal deal.  The baseball goes for $15.99
with every purchase of a "Big League Family Feast" (CRAIN'S
DETROIT BUSINESS, 11/27 issue).....L.A. King Exec and former
goaltender ROGIE VACHON posted a $100,000 bond for BRUCE MCNALL,
who is charged with four felony counts stemming from a federal
bank fraud investigation.  McNall is set to plead guilty on
December 7th (L.A. TIMES, 11/29)....GRACE LEE NIKKEL has joined
ESPN as a Chicago based SportsCenter correspondent.  She was a
sports anchor/reporter at WCCO-TV in Minneapolis the last two
years (ESPN)....The marketability of Detroit stars GRANT HILL and
BARRY SANDERS is examined in CRAIN'S DETROIT BUSINESS.  Sanders'
pursuit of a 2,000 rushing season could bring him back into the
"product endorsement limelight" (CRAIN'S DETROIT, 11/27 issue).
