     LESLIE TUNNEY has been promoted from national sales manger
to associate publisher of SPORTING GOODS DEALER magazine....JERRY
SOLOMON, formerly president of Busch Media Group, has joined SFM
Media Corp. in NYC as Executive VP  (CRAIN'S NEW YORK BUSINESS,
9/26 issue)....DOUG MELVIN, Assistant GM of the Orioles, has
surfaced as a candidate for the Cardinals' GM position.  "Word is
also that the Cardinals are interested in talking to CHUCK LEMAR,
who has a similar position to Melvin's with the Atlanta Braves"
(Rick Hummel, ST. LOUIS POST DISPATCH, 9/27)....In this morning's
SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, Bud Geracie writes that the decision
facing TONY LA RUSSA "isn't the most difficult of this career,
it's the most difficult of his life," while Robert Kuwada notes
that A's GM SANDY ALDERSON "has taken the classic ALFRED E.
NEUMAN pose.  What, me worry?" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 9/28).
