MIAMI GROUP MAKES PUSH TO KEEP ORANGE BOWL AT HOME

A vote that will determine the fate of the FedEx Orange Bowl
has been delayed two weeks and possibly as long as three months
if the city of Miami gets its way. At a special Orange Bowl
Committee (OBC) meeting to discuss a pending contract that would
"force a change" from the Orange Bowl to Joe Robbie Stadium, OBC
President Ed Williamson told members "the new college football
bowl alliance will need at least two more weeks to draw up a
contract for the OBC to review." The review period will be at
least another two weeks making the earliest date to vote on
moving the game October 24 instead of October 11. A Save the
Orange Bowl Committee has requested that the OBC delay its vote
at least 90 days to review the situation and further examine what
the city of Miami could do in conjunction with the Univ. of Miami
to improve the facility -- including adding skyboxes,
restaurants, media accommodations, restrooms and parking
improvements (Susan Miller Degnan, MIAMI HERALD, 9/27).
