EXECUTIVE TRANSACTIONS

     The Rangers replaced ten-year GM TOM GRIEVE with Scouting
Director SANDY JOHNSON yesterday.  Johnson is acting GM and a
candidate for the permanent position.  Grieve will stay with the
Rangers as Assistant to Club President Tom Schieffer.  Potential
GM candidates include: former Rangers and Astros GM BILL WOOD,
Cubs GM LARRY HIMES, and Assistant GMs for the Orioles' DOUG
MELVIN, Braves' CHUCK LAMAR and Rockies' WALT JOCKETY (FT. WORTH
STAR TELEGRAM, 9/15)....The Raptors are expected to name their
head scout today.  The "top man in line" is BOB ZUFFELATO
(TORONTO SUN, 9/15)....LUCIE SALHANY, the former chair of Fox
Broadcasting is expected to be named to run a new fifth network
being launched by Chris-Craft Industries and Paramount
Communications.  She reportedly signed a contract yesterday (WALL
STREET JOURNAL, 9/15).
