Tennessee Pols. Vote To Make Sports Betting Measure Law

Tennessee state senators today voted to legalize sports betting on a 19-12 vote, and the "previously passed House bill will have to return to the lower chamber because of Senate amendments." House Bill 1 "would allow and regulate statewide mobile and interactive sports gambling for persons ages 21 and over." The original bill, which "would have permitted brick-and-mortar betting shops, was eliminated from the measure" due to opposition from Gov. Bill Lee. Lee remains opposed to the bill, but indicated that he will allow it to "become law without his signature" (TIMESFREEPRESS.com, 4/30).
