Supercross Series Expecting Sellout, New VR Options To Start ‘18

The '18 Monster Energy Supercross season starts Saturday in Anaheim with an expected sold-out crowd, as well as some new at-venue activations. Feld Motor Sports Dir of Competition for Supercross Dave Prater said that as of Thursday, the series was pacing toward another sellout for its Angel Stadium opener. The dirt bike racing series over the offseason announced several changes, including a revised points system, a tweaked race structure meant to speed up the show and introduction of three Triple Crown competition events, which are essentially an extra in-season tournament.

Longtime title sponsor Monster last year extended its entitlement through '21, and Prater said that Monster will continue activating its overall brand rather than a specific drink. The brand also has an increased presence in the pits. Supercross is also debuting a new effort called SX VR that will use an Oculus VR headset to allow fans at the track to get the feeling of racing a bike.
