Beth Mowins Calling "MNF" Game Represents Landmark For NFL

ESPN's Beth Mowins will call play-by-play for tonight's Chargers-Broncos "MNF" game alongside analyst Rex Ryan, marking the "first regular-season NFL game called by a woman in 30 years." The milestone is "another step forward for a league that in recent years has seen the profile of women rise significantly." Mowins also will call "multiple games for CBS this season." NBC's Mike Tirico said, "This isn't about somebody getting an opportunity because of gender. It's about somebody getting an opportunity because of body of work" (L.A. TIMES, 9/10).

The L.A. DAILY NEWS goes with the header, "Beth Mowins' 'MNF' Role Is Win-Win For Everyone Watching." SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE: "Mowins Confident In Her Place In Booth."
