NASCAR Decides It Will Fill Open Chief Sales Officer Position

NASCAR has confirmed it is in the market for a new Chief Sales Officer, around seven months after the resignation of Jim O’Connell, who resigned after 11 years with the sanctioning body. It was unclear at that time whether NASCAR would fill his role. However, sources said that NASCAR has been looking recently for an exec to fill the position, and NASCAR Exec VP and Chief Sales & Marketing Officer Steve Phelps in a statement said, "This position will be accretive to the strong leadership we already have in place across our dynamic sales divisions. The person selected for this important role will not only help drive greater value for our current partners and for other brands investing in our sport, but will also be highly active in the marketplace telling the NASCAR story."

NASCAR could look externally for the new hire, or it could look to promote from within the group. Candidates at NASCAR who could fill the role include VP/Business Development Chad Seigler, a '15 SBJ/SBD "Forty Under 40" honoree.
