MLB Teams Pulling Out All Stops For Players In Final All-Star Voting

The polls for the fans' MLB All-Star Game Final Vote closed at 4:00pm ET, and teams have been "engaging in all kinds of electioneering and vote jockeying this week, including partnerships with other franchises and flooding Twitter timelines with entreaties to engage with a hashtag." The Yankees sent SS Didi Gregorius around the city to do "nice things for random New Yorkers in exchange for support on the ballot." Gregorius gave "free Metrocard swipes for subway riders" and had "photos taken for tourisits at Rockefeller Center" (SI.com, 7/6). As of yesterday, Royals 3B Mike Moustakas was winning the AL vote, with Gregorius in third place, and the Yankees today tweeted, "Hey @Indians and @whitesox, you guys wanna be our friends today and help #SirDidi4Sure get to the ASG? Can't let the KC guy win, right?" (TWITTER.com, 7/6).

The Rangers were helping SS Elvis Andrus by making fans who retweet the #ElectElvis hashtag "elgible for Rangers swag every hour" between 10:00am-4:00pm. The team revealed a list of the different swag available each hour (WFAA.com, 7/6).

The Cubs had several Chicago teams, including the Bulls, Blackhawks and Fire, "joining in the effort" to get fans to vote for 3B Kris Bryant. The Cubs were also "upping the stakes on their own feed, giving away tickets, autographed items, and even a selfie" with Bryant by retweeting #VoteKB (NBCCHICAGO.com, 7/6). Bryant's wife, Jessica, "tweeted out that she'll be revealing random facts on Twitter about her husband" from 10:00am-4:00pm (CHICAGOTRIBUNE.com, 7/6).
