Michigan Int’l Speedway Unveils New Activities For Its Race Weeks

Michigan Int’l Speedway today unveiled a host of new activities that are designed to add more entertainment throughout the entirety of the track’s race weeks. MIS will add kid-focused activities like face painting, a magician, movie night, Euchre tournament, hypnotist show, movie night, church services, an ice cream truck and a Wild About Gorillas show. Most NASCAR tracks open their camping a week before the race itself is held. It also will have entertainment for young adults and older revelers like a late-night foam party. The initiative is the first major consumer-facing changes that MIS has announced since Rick Brenner replaced Roger Curtis as track president last year.

The track will add street performers to its New Holland Fan Plaza and has started new ticket programs with Treetops Resort (for MIS’ spring race) and Cedar Point amusement park (for MIS’ summer race) involving getting to attend those destinations for free when fans purchase a ticket. Brenner, whose background is in the promotion-heavy minor league baseball, said, “We have 9,000 campsites here and we looked at it like a real opportunity … to create a reason for somebody to come take a vacation with us and be here for the week.”
