Mavericks Making Tony Romo Special Part Of Pregame Activities

The Mavericks tonight will "pay tribute" to Cowboys QB-turned-broadcaster Tony Romo, "starting in the pregame warmups and continuing throughout the final home game of the season" against the Nuggets. Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said that Romo will be "involved in everything from the shootaround to the layup line." Carlisle added that the "idea was run past" Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones. No "word about NBA approval was mentioned" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 4/11). Romo "will be in uniform" tonight (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 4/11).

The STAR-TELEGRAM's Mac Engel writes the move "on the surface" is a "warm yet harmless gesture that will generate attention." But beneath the headline is the "inescapable indictment of just how far this franchise has fallen."
