Tennessee's Hiring Of John Currie Praised By Fellow ADs, Media

The Univ. of Tennessee’s hiring today of Kansas State AD John Currie for the same role in Knoxville received a ton of praise on social media from both media pundits and athletic department officials around the country. Florida AD Scott Stricklin tweeted he was “happy” for his “close friend.” Stricklin: “Talented, hard-working guy. Look forward to hosting you in #TheSwamp in Sept.” Villanova AD Mark Jackson called Currie a “class act,” while Middle Tennessee State AD Chris Massaro called him an “outstanding AD.”

USA Today’s Dan Wolken tweeted UT "did the smart thing" by hiring Currie. Wolken felt former football coach Phil Fulmer "would have been a fiasco" and UT-Chattanooga Vice Chancellor & AD David Blackburn "wasn't ready." Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman called Currie a "very good get" for UT, while ESPN’s Darren Rovell called Currie “one of the best in the business.” Meanwhile, ESPN’s Chris Low tweeted the “biggest surprise” to him was the UT search committee never giving Blackburn a formal interview.
