NFL Brings Back "Shark Tank"-Style Tech Startup Competition

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and GE Chair & CEO Jeff Immelt will kick off the second annual 1st and Future next week, the league’s “Shark Tank”-like technology competition. Three companies will win $50,000 each. Judges for the Feb. 4 event at the Texas Medical Center include Richard Ellenbogen, co-Chair of the NFL’s Head Neck & Spine Committee; Ravens G John Urschel; GE Ventures CEO Sue Siegel; and former NFLer Chad Pennington. The league has yet to select the nine companies that will be competing in three categories: technologies to improve sideline communications, athlete training and materials to protect players.

GE is a contributor to the NFL’s Head Health Initiative, which focused on seeding companies developing solutions for traumatic brain injury. NFL Network’s Scott Hanson will emcee the competition.
