Trump Meets With MLB's Manfred, Yankees' Levine Today In N.Y.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred and Yankees President Randy Levine met today in N.Y. with President-elect Trump, and sources described the nearly hour-long session as primarily a meet-and-greet in which Manfred and Trump could become better acquainted. Levine, a longtime supporter and friend of Trump, arranged the meeting. MLB holds a variety of political interests, including its federal antitrust exemption and connection to labor, taxation, broadcasting and drug regulations. The league also early last year opened a new office in DC led by VP/Government Relations Josh Alkin.

Sources said the session today did not get deeply into any of those policy matters, but the conversation did veer at times towards baseball’s role in American society and the sport’s extensive presence in Latin America. Manfred at Trump Tower told pool reporters Trump “explained to me his history with the game and what a great baseball fan he is.”
