The Roots will perform as part of the "Entertainment Series" prior to the NBA All-Star Game on Feb. 19 at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans (NBA).

NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick’s eponymous foundation last night held its annual gala in Charlotte, where it held an auction for its youth-focused charity and announced it will build a new baseball field in conjunction with the Cal Ripken Foundation in Florida. Attendees included Jimmy John’s Founder Jimmy John Liautaud, chef Guy Fieri, SMI President & CEO Marcus Smith and NASCAR execs Steve Phelps and Jill Gregory (Adam Stern, Staff Writer).

The Syracuse basketball team on Saturday against Georgetown will pay tribute to the late Pearl Washington by "rocking sneakers with '31 Pearl' on the tongue" (ESPN.com, 12/13).
