NBPA Exec Dir Michele Roberts On Growth Of Game, CBA Talks

NBPA Exec Dir Michele Roberts today said of the growth of the NBA, “The game has been growing exponentially for years. Since the last collective bargaining agreement, gate receipts have gone way up, sponsorships have gone way up. As you know, viewership has gone way up.” CNBC’s Carl Quintanilla said, “Value of the franchises (are) way, way up.” Roberts: “It has increased 240% since 2011, though player salaries have only gone up 15%, so I’ll make that point. But the game is in a great place, and not surprisingly, it’s become a much more lucrative enterprise for the owners.”

Roberts said of CBA talks, “We are engaged in negotiations right now. Things are going well. We all understand that we want to continue the momentum. … We are behaving like adults, and I expect that we will be able to get a new CBA in record time” (“Squawk on the Street,” CNBC, 6/9).

According to the NBA, player compensation from the '10-11 season to the '16-17 season will have increased by 55% (THE DAILY).
