Penn Mutual Expands Sponsorship Of Collegiate Rugby Tournament

The Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championships start today in Philadelphia, and the company earlier this year negotiated an extension with event owners United World Sports and NBC Sports Group to keep title sponsorship of the sevens tournament and the 15-side Varsity Cup event through '19. The original deal was Penn Mutual’s first sports sponsorship in its 167-year history.

The expanded deal, worth in the low seven figures annually according to a source, includes a uniform component with Rhino Rugby, which UWS licenses exclusively in the Americas. As part of the uniform component, Penn Mutual agrees to cover half the cost of any college club team’s uniforms in exchange for uniform logo rights. More than 300 clubs are eligible. To date, 10 schools have signed on with more than 50 considering it.
