Sources: Tennis Integrity Unit To Receive "Independent Review"

Tennis authorities in several hours are scheduled to unveil plans for an "independent review" of the Tennis Integrity Unit, the London-based group at the center of the sport’s gambling storm, sources said. The sport was rocked in the last week by reports that it has ignored red flags of unusual betting patterns on many matches, suggesting match fixing. Most recently, an obscure mixed doubles match at the ongoing Australian Open attracted a large number of bets. The TIU is tasked with overseeing investigations and punishments of match fixing.

Today in Melbourne, Int’l Tennis Federation President Dave Haggerty, ATP President Chris Kermode and Wimbledon Chair Philip Brook will announce an independent review to be conducted of the TIU, the sources said. The press conference is scheduled for 6:00pm ET, or 10:30am local time Wednesday in Melbourne. Further details were not immediately available.
