Sources: NFL Owners To Vote On Extending London Games Past '16

Sources said that scheduled for next week’s NFL owners meeting is a vote on extending the Int'l Series in London beyond '16. The current approval for games in London expires after next season, and the NFL has made no secret that it wants to play more than the three games scheduled. NFL VP/Communications Brian McCarthy said, “We are reviewing the International Series games performance to date as well opportunities to expand it. ... There is potential that there will be a vote.” The league this summer already reached an agreement with EPL club Tottenham Hotspur to play two regular-season games a year in their new stadium when it opens in '18. There also has been talk of relocating a team to London, though the league might accomplish just as much by having eight teams play one “home” game there annually.

Additionally, there has been talk the Int’l Series could expand to countries such as Mexico and Germany, among others. It is unclear if an owners vote next week would be to continue games only in the U.K. The NFL first began playing regular-season games in London in '07, and approval for games there has so far been in five-year terms.
