Boston 2024 Says Poll Shows Support For Revised Bid "Growing"

Boston 2024 found the silver lining in an otherwise cloudy public opinion poll released Friday by WBUR-FM and MassINC Polling Group that found support for the city's Olympic bid essentially unchanged. Committee COO Erin Murphy said in a prepared statement the poll results "show support is growing as more people see our 'Bid 2.0' plans." She is referring to support across the state of Massachusetts, where 42% of respondents said they back the games, up from 39% in June.

However, the poll also finds that support within the city of Boston fell three points from April to 44% now, and support was unchanged across the Boston metro region, stuck at 40%. Bid officials have said they would want a possible voter referendum on the games to pass in both the city and statewide.

The statement reads in part, “These poll results show support is growing as more people see our ‘Bid 2.0’ plans, which rely entirely on private financing for Olympic venues and operations and include substantial safeguards to make sure taxpayer dollars are not put at risk. Our plan will yield tremendous legacy benefits for communities, provide once-in-a-lifetime economic development opportunities and accelerate much-needed housing, transportation and infrastructure upgrades.”
