FBI, DOJ Investigating Cardinals For Hacking Astros' Networks

The FBI and Justice Department are "investigating front-office officials" for the Cardinals for "hacking into the internal networks" of the Astros. Law enforcement officials said that investigators have uncovered evidence that the Cardinals accessed "special databases" the Astros had built, and that "internal discussions about trades, proprietary statistics and scouting reports were compromised." The officials "did not say which employees were the focus of the investigation or whether the team’s highest-ranking officials were aware of the hacking" (NYTIMES.com, 6/16).

ESPN’s Louis Riddick tweeted, “As was just said to me...when it comes to sports controversy, there is no such thing as 'that is unbelievable' anymore. #computerhacking.” NFL Network’s Albert Breer: “So this is where the influx of computer nerds finally catches up to baseball?” SI’s Joan Niesen: “Someone quick go check the air pressure in the Cardinals' baseballs.” USA Today’s Dan Wolken: “If this is true, I'm sure the Cardinals employed the classiest, hardest working computer hackers around.” Dodgers P Brandon McCarthy: "in keeping with baseball tradition, a Houston exec should walk into the STL offices and hit their best front office guy with a fastball."
