James Dolan Discusses Isiah Thomas Hiring, TWC Merger Talks

MSG Chair James Dolan appeared on CNBC this afternoon from INTX 2015: The Internet & Television Expo, and when asked about hiring Isiah Thomas to oversee the WNBA Liberty, he responded, “I did not pay attention to – yes – all the controversy that I knew would be there. I’m used to living in controversy, so it didn’t bother me.” Dolan: “I am so pleased by everyone’s interest in the New York Liberty and I can’t wait to see them all at the game.” He added that it is not a “big secret” the Liberty and the WNBA “are not as popular as we need them to be.”

Dolan, whose family owns Cablevision, also discussed a possible merger with Time Warner Cable: “We’re interested. They’d have to see the value in it too. I’m sure I’ll talk to them about the value of it because I think it’s there.” But Dolan added Cablevision did not have to merge with another cable company, as “we’re doing just fine” (“Fast Money Halftime Report,” CNBC, 5/6).
