U.S. Sens. Urge FIFA To Consider Taking World Cup Out Of Russia

A group of U.S. senators has written to FIFA, "urging it to consider removing Russia as host" of the '18 FIFA World Cup "because of its role in the Ukraine crisis and occupation of Crimea." The letter from 13 lawmakers from both parties was dated yesterday and released today. The lead signers were Robert Menendez (N.J.), the "top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee," and Ron Johnson (Wis.), the "Republican chairman of the foreign relations panel's Europe subcommittee" (REUTERS, 4/1).
