Hawks Honoring Wilkins With Statue Amid Reports Of Bid For Team

The Hawks tonight will honor Basketball HOFer Dominique Wilkins in a ceremony at Philips Arena, unveiling a statue of him during an off day for the team. This comes as Wilkins has been linked to potential bids for the team (THE DAILY). Sculptor Brian Hanlon created the monument, which reportedly cost about $350,000. The team "saw a tribute to Wilkins as a natural remedy" for a season that began with controversy surrounding comments by Owner Bruce Levenson and GM Danny Ferry (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 2/28).
