Islanders To Begin Selling Local Beer Named After Nassau Coliseum

Long Island-based Oyster Bay Brewing has partnered with Nassau Coliseum concessionaire Savor SMG to offer “Barn Rocker” at several locations throughout the arena beginning Friday night when the team hosts the Penguins. The beer name commemorates the team’s final season at the venue. OBB co-Owner Gabe Heim said that the Islanders’ marketing staff came up with the “Barn Rocker” moniker, based on the arena’s nickname, “The Old Barn.” However, the Islanders said that they are not involved with the rollout of the beer, and Heim noted that the tap handles will not feature any Islanders imagery.

OBB is not an official partner of the team, which has sponsorship deals with A-B InBev, MillerCoors and Heineken. But Heim said the brewery has its logo “wrapped around the inside” of Knuckleheads, a draught beer alcove in the arena concourse, as well as inside Doolin’s Pub on the building’s lower level. While the Coliseum has offered several OBB beers since the beginning of the season, “Barn Rocker” will be rolled out at four additional points of sale. The beer is a session ale with an ABV of 4%. Heim: “That way, you can drink all night while you’re tailgating, all night during the game.” The beer is available only at the Coliseum and the OBB brewery bar.
