IOC Approves More Reforms As Meeting Continues In Monaco

The IOC today approved the "rewording of its Principle 6 on nondiscrimination to include sexual orientation" as the body continues to adopt provisions of its 40-point "Olympic Agenda 2020." Also today in Monaco, the IOC "abolished the cap of 28 sports for the Summer Games to move to an 'events-based' system." It "backed the launch of a digital channel – possibly as early as next year." The IOC said the channel – to be run by the Madrid-based Olympic Broadcasting Services – will cost $600M to operate over the first seven years, "with the goal of breaking even in the first decade."

With the "debate moving quickly and reforms receiving unanimous backing," IOC President Thomas Bach said that the meeting "could wrap up in one day" (AP, 12/8).
