Counsel For NFL Retirees Files Against Request To Depose Lawyers

Counsel for NFL retirees negotiating a settlement with the league over concussion injuries described the request of seven former players to depose the lawyers as “harassment” in a filing made this afternoon. The seven players are opposed to the preliminary settlement and want to know how it was reached. The players, led by Alan Faneca and Sean Morey, already were rebuffed by the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in their effort to overturn a district court judge’s preliminary approval of the settlement, which is for a minimum of $765M. Recently, they asked the lower court for discovery, including depositions for the lead counsel, on how they arrived at the settlement.
