MLB's '15 Schedule Features New Format For Interleague Rivalries

MLB today announced its tentative schedule for the '15 season, with the full Opening Day slated for Monday, April 6 with 15 games, preceded by an ESPN “Sunday Night Baseball” game on April 5. The participating clubs for that “SNB” game will be announced at a later date. The schedule for next year at present does not outline any international games, but the league remains interested in slating overseas games, particularly a first-ever regular season trip to Europe.

Like the prior two seasons, the '15 schedule uses everyday interleague play. Among the major changes is a shift in how MLB is scheduling natural interleague rivals, such as the N.Y., L.A. and Chicago teams, as well as the Orioles and Nationals. Traditionally slated in the late spring or early summer, many of those marquee interleague matchups will occur in April and September. And instead of a pair of two-game series, the teams will play a pair of three-game series. MLB Senior VP/Scheduling & Club Relations Katy Feeney confirmed that the later start and finish to the '15 season means Game 6 and 7 of the World Series, if necessary, would occur in November.
