MLB Owners Elect Rob Manfred As Next Commissioner In 30-0 Vote

UPDATED at 6:23pm ET: Multiple reports confirm that Rob Manfred has been elected as the next commissioner of Major League Baseball in a 30-0 vote after a long day of deliberations in Baltimore.

MLB owners this afternoon in Baltimore remain behind closed doors on their vote for the next commissioner, as an initial vote failed to generate the necessary 23 votes for election, according to league sources. The vote generated 22 votes for MLB COO Rob Manfred and eight for Red Sox Chair Tom Werner, sources said. That suggests Manfred will garner the last needed vote before the meeting concludes today and he will become the 10th MLB Commissioner.

MLB Exec VP/Business Tim Brosnan dropped out of the race shortly before voting began at 1:30pm ET. He declined to explain his exit from the race, saying, "I’m not going to comment yet. I hope you respect that."
