Long Beach To Host Asics-Sponsored Beach Volleyball Tournament

The Int'l Federation of Volleyball (FIVB) today formally announced plans for the July 22-28 Asics World Series of Beach Volleyball in Long Beach, Calif., marking the first FIVB Grand Slam event in the U.S. since '03. NBC, NBC Sports Network and Universal Sports will provide more than 20 hours of programming around the tournament. In addition to Asics, other sponsors include Bud Light, Paul Mitchell, Sabra, Barefoot Wine, Nestea and Mikasa (FIVB).

The event is being "engineered" by former AVP Commissioner Leonard Armato's Management Plus Enterprises. It will feature "a total of $500,000 in prize money, along with an associated concert and music festival" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 5/6 issue).
