U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and U.S. Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) have sent letters to the NCAA and National Federation of State High School Associations voicing concern about energy drink marketing at high school and college sporting events (POLITICO.com, 2/22).

The U.S. Department of Justice on Friday said that it has joined a civil lawsuit against Lance Armstrong, accusing him of "defrauding the U.S. Postal Service by using banned substances in international races when the post was his sponsor" (REUTERS, 2/22). 

Smoking will be prohibited in the grandstands at this Sunday's Daytona 500 "for the first time in the history" of the race. Daytona Int'l Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said, "We have really had very little negative feedback" (Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL, 2/22).

Syracuse Univ. has "sold 35,012 tickets to Saturday's game vs. Georgetown and has announced the game has officially sold out." That number breaks the "previous Carrier Dome record for a basketball game," when 34,616 attended Syracuse-Villanova on February 27, 2010 (SYRACUSE.com, 2/20).

Maverik Lacrosse will debut its "The Decision is Yours" commercial campaign during ESPNU's broadcast of the Johns Hopkins-Michigan game on Saturday (Maverik Lacrosse).
