The Univ. of Miami on Friday announced that Blake James has "shed his title" as interim AD and been hired for the position full-time. James had been serving as interim AD since October (MIAMIHERALD.com, 2/8).

The Penguins distributed more than 190,000 free concession items and and sold more than 8,600 half-price jerseys during special post-lockout promotions at their first four home games of the season. The team also sold 18,950 T-shirts and 8,776 hats at half price (Penguins).

Univ. of Houston officials Friday broke ground on a 40,000-seat football stadium, but "construction of the new stadium actually began in early December." The stadium is slated to be completed for the start of the '14 season (ABCLOCAL.com, 2/8).

Darrell Wallace Jr. on Saturday is expected to announce that he will compete in the Camping World Truck Series for Kyle Busch Motorsports, making him "only the third black driver in the 65-year history of NASCAR to secure a full-time ride in a national series" (N.Y. TIMES, 2/8).

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and The V Foundation, on Friday announced the start of the seventh annual Play 4Kay initiative (Kay Yow Cancer Fund).
