Gulfstream Park Battling With Calder Race Course Over Race Dates
Published January 3, 2013
A Gulfstream Park filing for racing dates shows that the track "plans to have racing every week, in some cases just on Saturdays and Sundays, with a total of 153 race days during the 12 months beginning July 1." The filing listed 35 of the same Saturday and Sunday weekends Calder Casino & Race Course "listed in the preliminary filing it submitted on Dec. 31." The potential overlap will be "an early major issue in an anticipated battle between the two tracks, which are located eight miles apart, over racing dates." The tracks have until Feb. 28 to resolve their differences (BLOODHORSE.com, 1/3).
