Tulane, ECU Announce Plans To Join Big East Conference In '14

Tulane Univ. today announced that it is joining the Big East in all sports in '14, while East Carolina Univ. will join as a football-only member the same year. Sources said that the reason the Big East opted for 13 football schools in '14 "is that the league expects either Louisville or Connecticut to leave for the ACC," as those two schools are the "favorites to replace Maryland." Tulane and ECU have been competing in Conference USA (ESPN.com, 11/27).

Big East Commissioner Mike Aresco said that the conference's "'basketball schools,' like Providence College, St. John's and Georgetown are united in their support of this new football model" (PROVIDENCEJOURNAL.com, 11/27).
