MLBAM Takes Over League's Twitter Account For Fan Contests

MLBAM this afternoon took the league's official @MLB Twitter account private for six hours to conduct a series of members-only giveaways and contests. The effort generated about 7,000 additional followers late this morning before the account was temporarily locked, boosting the total count to more than 2.44 million. But the promotion was primarily aimed at rewarding existing followers, driving awareness for the upcoming postseason and showcasing a looser tone to the feed that has emerged in recent months. MLBAM will reopen @MLB to new followers at 6:00pm ET.
