Henry Denies Fenway Sports Group Exploring Sale Of Red Sox

Fenway Sports Group Chair John Henry denied a Fox Business report from earlier today that the Red Sox "could be for sale." Henry in an e-mail said he and Red Sox Chair Tom Werner "speak 7 days a week." Henry: "A sale of any kind is so far from [our] thinking that it hasn't even come up apart from the technical planning issues involving death or disability. This report is completely without foundation" (SI.com, 9/13). Red Sox President & CEO Larry Lucchino called the report "nonsense," saying he would deny it "quite vociferously." Lucchino: "We are the guys you are going to have to kick around for awhile” ("Dennis & Callahan Morning Show," WEEI-AM, 9/13).

Fox Business had reported FSG is "mulling a potential sale" of the team, citing sources as saying that execs are "debating whether they have the financial resources to run both" the MLB team and EPL club Liverpool (FOXBUSINESS.com, 9/13).
