Sarah Robb O'Hagan Leaving Gatorade To Be Equinox President

PepsiCo today announced that Gatorade President Sarah Robb O'Hagan is "leaving the company, the latest executive movement in PepsiCo's Americas drink division, its largest business." O'Hagan, who has served as President since early '11 after holding the title PepsiCo Global CMO of Sports Nutrition for two-plus years, is leaving to become President of fitness chain Equinox. Concurrent with O'Hagan's departure, PepsiCo is naming Debra Crew President of Americas Beverages, a division that encompasses Gatorade (MARKETWATCH.com, 8/16).

MLB Owners Formally Approve Sale Of Padres To Fowler's Group

By Eric Fisher

MLB owners today at league meetings in Denver took less than 10 minutes to formally approve the sale of the Padres to a group led by San Diego businessman and former minority owner Ron Fowler, who is now the designated control exec of the club. The approval sets up an expected closing of the estimated $800M sale from John Moores within the next 10-14 days. After the fractious collapse of a prior, Jeff Moorad-led bid to buy the club, MLB Commissioner Bud Selig today hailed the Fowler group and the relative ease with which the transaction was done. Fowler, for his part, pledged to instill a sense of local pride in the incoming ownership group. "What we hope this means is that we're starting on a long, consistent ownership group," he said of his fellow investors, which include several members of the O'Malley family.

Moores, meanwhile, departed Denver right after the vote. Selig said of Moores, "John did a lot of wonderful things for baseball. He was very helpful for me, particularly during a time (in the 1990s) when things weren't frankly as great as they are right now. I know it's the right thing for him to do. Believe me, I like John Moores a lot. He did a lot for this sport. A lot."

WNBA Launches Promotion Starring Members Of Team USA

The WNBA is launching a new promotion, coinciding with today's start of the regular season, that features the 12 players who represented the U.S. in the London Games. Fans can access the spot via WNBA and NBA digital outlets, including official league websites, Facebook and Twitter. It also will debut on NBA TV today and will appear throughout the month on NBA TV and ESPN2. The ad was produced by NBA agency of record Goodby, Silverstein & Partners (WNBA).

Meanwhile, with yesterday's expiration of London Games ambush marketing restrictions, Gatorade is rolling out a new ad featuring Usain Bolt. The spot features recut footage from an earlier effort, but a new narration "gloats about how Gatorade didn't have to advertise at the Games because it was already inside the athletes." TBWA/Chiat/Day produced the spot (ADWEEK.com, 8/16).

Foot Locker Unveils Latest Ad Campaign Featuring NBA Stars

Foot Locker today unveiled a national advertising and integrated marketing campaign that stars NBAers Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, James Harden, Kevin Love, and Russell Westbrook. The effort, the first under the "Approved" umbrella created by BBDO, features three TV spots that are now viewable on Foot Locker's YouTube channel. The campaign also will include in-store, print and digital components. The commercials feature the five players off the court in situations highlighting the season’s footwear and apparel trends (Foot Locker).

Packers Debut Lambeau Field Renovations Tonight Against Browns

The Packers host the Browns tonight in their preseason home opener, and fans attending the game will find that "a lot has changed" at Lambeau Field during the offseason. Other renovations include a new entrance, new Mitsubishi Diamond Vision video board and new concessionaire Delaware North Sportservice (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 8/16).

Sportservice is "off to a rocky start" since replacing Levy Restaurants as concessionaire. The company and the Packers yesterday said that they "need more volunteers to work in concession stands because as many as 16 nonprofit groups didn't come back from last year" (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 8/16).

As the NFL and NFL Referees Association continue to spar over the lockout of game officials, the NFLRA today weighed in on the league's latest proposal, saying it is "not opposed to full time officials if they are fairly compensated." The NFLRA added, "While the NFL has never made any compensation proposal, comparable positions in other professional sports at the 20-year level earn approximately $350,000 to $400,000 and are provided health insurance, a pension, time off with pay and numerous other benefits" (AP, 8/16).
