Hornets To Announce Deal With Fox Sports For New RSN Launch

The Hornets this afternoon announced a new local TV deal with Fox Sports, in what is being described as a long-term deal. Fox plans to launch FS New Orleans in October and telecast 75 of the team's regular season games. Currently, FS Southwest covers the New Orleans market. Neither Fox nor the Hornets will release financial details. But sources have told THE DAILY the annual rights fee is in the low-to-mid eight figures, comparable to the amount Fox pays for the Bobcats' rights in Charlotte.

SBJ first reported the pending deal in May, when the Hornets previous rights holder, Cox Communications, opted to drop out of competing for the Hornets' rights, leaving Fox Sports as the only serious bidder.
