Warriors Today Formally Announce Plans For Waterfront Arena In S.F.

S.F. Mayor Ed Lee today formally announced that the Warriors plan to build a waterfront arena at Piers 30-32 near AT&T Park. Warriors co-Owner Joe Lacob said, "We are pleased to be privately financing the arena -- with no money from the City's general fund and no new taxes." Lee said the project "will provide millions of dollars in new tax revenue" for the city (Warriors).

Following the press conference, CSNBayArea.com’s Ray Ratto said there was a “lot of rhetoric here today, no details.” Ratto: “For the most part, this was largely an exercise in self-congratulations, which is standard for any project really where politicians are involved. … If it gets done here and it gets done in five years, it will be a spectacular achievement because there are so many obstacles to this” (Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, 5/22).
