Callaway President Discusses Sale Of Top-Flite, Potential In Asia

Callaway President & CEO Chip Brewer appeared on CNBC this afternoon, marking his first TV interview since assuming the role last month. Brewer discussed the sale of the company’s Top-Flite brand to Dick’s Sporting Goods, and said, "If you look at where we are as a company now, we think the best strategy is really going to be to focus on our core brands – the Callaway and Odyssey brands. We’ve got a lot of runway there, a tremendous amount of opportunity and it made sense to part company with Top-Flite. Dick’s has been a great partner. I think they’ll do very well with that brand."

Brewer also discussed potential growth for the company in Asia, and said, “The Callaway brand there is iconic, and candidly, even stronger than it is in the U.S. at the moment. And a lot of the growth is going to be coming out of Asia over the next few years. So it’s going to be a big part of our strategy, and certainly one of the positives as we look forward in our business and the golf industry in general” (“Fast Money Halftime Report,” CNBC, 4/5).
