L.A. Marathon Organizers Prepare For Rain And Wind

About 25,000 runners will take part in Sunday's Honda L.A. Marathon, and area organizers and officials are preparing for weather that will likely be "wet and even colder than the year before with temperatures in the low to mid 50s." Santa Monica City Hall and race organizers have "adjusted the route" in a way that "lengthens the path runners need to traverse as they get warming blankets and food while they're still moving." Runners that "need extra heating or cooling will be escorted to buses" (SMDP.com, 3/14).

A group from the nonprofit Ashinaga is running the marathon to "raise funds for construction of an orphanage in Japan and to support its mission of providing financial and emotional support to children who have lost one or both of their parents" (MLB.com, 3/15).
