Family Of Dave Duerson Sues NFL, Blaming Concussions For Suicide

The family of the late Dave Duerson has sued the NFL, claiming his suicide was linked to concussions he suffered in his playing days. The lawsuit was filed in Cook County Court in Illinois. He fatally shot himself on Feb 17, 2011. The NFL in a statement said, “We have not seen the lawsuit and therefore our attorneys have not had an opportunity to review it. Dave Duerson was an outstanding football player and citizen who made so many positive contributions but unfortunately encountered serious personal challenges later in his life. We sympathize with the Duerson family and continue to be saddened by this tragedy.”

There are more than two dozen lawsuits filed by former players now outstanding against the NFL because of concussions suffered during their playing days. Almost all have been filed in the last eight months.
