Jim Steeg To Chair Advisory Board For New Iteration Of USFL

The group organizing the new USFL says former NFL exec Jim Steeg has agreed to be Chair of its advisory board, and perhaps an official in the future. The group plans to make the announcement tomorrow. Jaime Cuadra, who is leading the new USFL that plans to launch next year, said the league will have a mix of people with football and non-football backgrounds. Complementing Steeg, he said, will be Fred Biletnikoff Jr., who will be COO & VP/Football Operations.

Cuadra and a group of investors earlier this month purchased the USFL’s intellectual property. The plan is to launch the league next spring with about eight teams. Steeg is perhaps best known as the Senior VP/Events at the NFL, where he managed the Super Bowl, among other events. He left in '04 to become an exec with the Chargers, stepped down from that post in '10 and has been a consultant since.
