NBA Entertainment, ESPN Team Up For Magic Johnson Film

NBA Entertainment and ESPN are collaborating for "The Announcement," an original documentary about Magic Johnson announcing in '91 that he was HIV positive. The film, directed by Nelson George and narrated by Johnson, will debut on Sunday, March 11, at 9:00pm ET. It feature interviews with Johnson's wife Cookie, son Andre, agent Lon Rosen, Larry Bird, Jerry West, James Worthy and Kurt Rambis (ESPN). George said for "a lot of people of a certain age," Johnson's announcement was the equivalent of "the Kennedy assassination or the King assassination" (NYTIMES.com, 2/10).
