NFL, NFLPA Agree To Mediation In CBA Talks, Starting Friday

The Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service announced today that the NFL and NFLPA have agreed to mediation in their ongoing CBA negotiations. At the invitation of the FMCS, and with the agreement of both the league and union, the ongoing NFL labor talks will be conducted under the auspices of FMCS Dir George Cohen, starting tomorrow. The agency said that it will refrain from any comment regarding the future schedule of labor meetings. Last year, Cohen supervised CBA negotiations between MLS and its players union, helping the sides reach a deal before the '10 season (THE DAILY).

Meanwhile, the NFLPA today "denied rumors of a boycott at next week's NFL Combine, via a tweet" from union Assistant Exec Dir for External Affairs George Atallah. Atallah posted on his Twitter feed, "Players will be at the combine. Young men have an opportunity of a lifetime. They are not locked out ... yet." However, players skipping April's draft is "likely if no collective bargaining agreement is in place by next month" (NFL.com, 2/17).
