With the NFL suggesting that it will attempt to strengthen its drug-testing policy amid reports that the U.S. House Government Reform Committee is considering a hearing on steroid use in the NFL, Raiders FB Rob Konrad, a former player rep for the Dolphins, said of the current policy, “It’s already the most comprehensive testing in professional sports.  If you’re doing steroids now, you’ve got some kind of death wish” (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/31).  Read the full story.

While Game Plan and Bain Capital in March were rebuffed in an attempt to purchase the NHL for $3.5B, Game Plan Chair Robert Caporale said of the companies receiving overtures from some team owners who are interested in the proposal, “We haven’t reached out to them, but some have reached out to us.  They said that they were interested in our presentation and hoped there would be further discussion” (BOSTON HERALD, 3/31).  Read the full story.

With MLBAM planning to broadcast live video coverage of entire games to mobile phone users and also alert them about team and individual highlights,  MLBAM Senior VP/Communications Jim Gallagher said, “Over the next few years, it’s possible more people will be getting our content by cellphone than PCs” (USA TODAY, 3/31).  Read the full story.

TODAY’S ARTICLES OF INTEREST

The Baltimore SUN’s Peter Schmuck writes of the U.S. Army showing interest in the naming rights to RFK Stadium’s baseball field, “The idea of the Department of Defense shelling out more than a million bucks a year to advertise something that already has fairly universal recognition seems a bit ridiculous. … Does anyone really think an Army tie-in would have the desired effect? The military is attempting to raise its profile with the 18-to-25 set, but I can’t see a bunch of Georgetown students showing up to see the Nats play the Phillies and saying, ‘What the heck, the Middle East is nice this time of year’” (Baltimore SUN).
