PGA TOUR PLAYER AARON BADDELEY TO ENDORSE ECCO GOLF SHOES
Danishfootwear maker ECCO today announced that it has signed PGA Tour player AaronBaddeley to a multiyear endorsement agreement. Under the deal, Baddeley will exclusively wear ECCO golf shoes incompetition and display the ECCO logo on his shirt collar. Baddeley will also appear at ECCO customerfunctions and will be featured in marketing initiatives. Baddelely joins Thomas Bjorn as an ECCOendorser (ECCO).
ACC TODAY REMOVED AS DEFENDANT IN BIG EAST FOOTBALL LAWSUIT
TheAP reports that Superior Court Judge Samuel Sferrazza today again removedthe ACC “as a defendant in a lawsuit filed by four Big East football schoolsover the departure of Miami and Boston College for the ACC.” Sferrazza, who ruled that the ACC did nothave sufficient ties to Connecticut to be sued in the state, “originallydismissed the case against the ACC in October, prompting Connecticut AttorneyGeneral Richard Blumenthal to refile the lawsuit adding as defendantsindividual directors of the ACC.” Thenew lawsuit also added Boston College and AD Gene DeFilippo (AP,2/9).

USA NETWORK TO AIR WESTMINSTER DOG SHOW TONIGHT AT 8:00pm ET
USANetwork tonight begins coverage of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at8:00pm ET, and the BOSTON GLOBE noted that in the 20 years USA has televisedthe event, “ratings have grown slowly but steadily (except when it goes upagainst the Winter Olympics).” Lastyear’s event drew a 3.7 Nielsen cable rating and notched a 200% increase in the25-54 demographic (BOSTONGLOBE, 2/8).

Asexpected, Kroenke Sports Enterprises today announced the creation of a regionalTV network that will feature sports and entertainment. Kroenke Sports is the parent company of theNuggets, Avalanche, NLL Mammoth, MLS Rapids, Pepsi Center and part owner of theAFL Crush (Kroenke Sports Enterprises).
TheNHL today announced that Saturday night’s Young Stars Game on ESPN drew a 0.78Nielsen metered market rating, up 24% from last year’s 0.63. Saturday night’s Skills Competition on ESPNdelivered a 1.16 rating, up 4% from last year’s 1.12 (NHL).
IMAXtoday announced that it has signed an agreement with NASCAR attraction DaytonaUSA to open an IMAX theater alongside Daytona Int’l Speedway. The theater is set to open in April (IMAX).
TVGuide this week offers its ’04 NASCAR preview. Special-edition collector’s covers featuring Jeff Gordon, DaleEarnhardt Jr. and Kevin Harvick hit newsstands today (TV Guide).
TheDENVER POST reports that FCC Chair Michael Powell “shrugged off criticswho accused him of overstepping his bounds by ordering an investigation” of theSuper Bowl halftime show, while speaking at the Univ. of Colorado’s SiliconFlatirons Telecommunications Program on Internet policy. Powell: “I have had much more applause thannegative comments” (DENVER POST, 2/9).
TheMontreal GAZETTE today re-institutes a middle edition, meaning that it will be able to “delivera Sports section that contains the scores for most major sports events in NorthAmerica” (MontrealGAZETTE, 2/9).
TheCP reports that “HNIC” commentator Don Cherry has been invited to jointhe broadcast team of “Battle of the Hockey Gladiators,” which is organized byPROactive Sports Management. A date andvenue have yet to be announced (CP,2/9).
CDItoday announced that it has chosen AudienceView Software’s in-house ticketingsystem for all six of its racetracks. The Web-based software will be integrated with existing systems (CDI).
Irvine,CA-based Epicor Software today announced that the Redskins have selected theirend-to-end hospitality solution to manage customer and supplier relationships (Epicor).
